Google and Microsoft Face Scrutiny Over Generative AI in India

In a recent development, the Indian government has sought detailed clarifications from Google and Microsoft regarding their generative AI systems like Gemini and Copilot. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) is reviewing how these tools handle misinformation, data localization, and user privacy.

The move follows concerns raised by digital rights groups about AI-generated content influencing public opinion and elections. Both tech giants have pledged greater transparency and offered to collaborate on setting responsible AI frameworks tailored for India’s diverse user base.
